About

This website will soon feature stories that celebrate those who have succeeded against the odds; and the methods that proved helpful to them.

The stories will be about those who kept going when all appeared lost; those who overcame great physical difficulty to reach their goals, or regain health; those who, despite their fears – or as is more often the case, the fears of friends, family and colleagues – persisted and succeeded; those who despite negative public opinion or media, pursued and achieved their goals (like Jessica Watson - see below); or those who built a successful business in difficult, or exceptional circumstances.

In short, this website will feature stories about those who, despite whatever, went ahead and did it anyway!

More soon ...

A story:

Jessica Watson, photo by Steve HollandA young women, 16 years young in fact, prepares to set sail for a solo round-the-world sailing attempt. While on a preliminary practice run off the East coast of Australia, a cargo tanker smashes into her little yacht, causing damage and consternation that her intended attempt is "irresponsible".

A Portrait of Einstein Instrumental in Stroke Recovery

Following a stroke which had completely paralysed my left arm and left leg, I was admitted into the Rehabilitation Unit at Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital. After a period when Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists helped me with some basic exercises to recover some limited movement in my limbs, an Occupational Therapist was assigned to give me some concentrated and tailored therapy to help me recover the use of my left arm. Before the commencement of this period of concentrated focus, she asked me a direct and pointed question.

Heaven Sent (ABC Australian Story)

A wonderful story of achievement was aired by Australian ABC Television on Monday evening (June 14, 2010), about a man who pursued his dreams with his family, despite the difficulties and the doubters.

As explained on the ABC 1's blog Australian Story website (Heaven Sent):

At the age of 48, successful Victorian businessman Peter Roberts was finding little joy in the trappings of success.

Why

Why this website?

By sharing stories of those who've achieved great things, despite the doubts, difficulties and detractors, we can learn how better to engage our energy and enjoy the fruits of it.

Put simply, by learning how others ignored the roadblocks in life, and went ahead and did it anyway, we can be motivated, encouraged and inspired to likewise do it anyway .../contd.

Why aren't we happy?

We're in the midst of a curious phenomenon.

Despite all the self-help books, films (The Secret), television shows (Dr Phil, Oprah), depression is now the leading cause of disability in the world.

Huh? That's like being at a feast and going hungry. Why?

What's really going on?

Part of my story-1 (Steve Pirie)

The idea of someone setting aside time to write a book on a highly complex subject about which they are not in the least qualified, while facing mounting financial pressures, and without any steady income or cash reserves to tide them over, seems foolhardy and irresponsible, to say the least.

And to do so by someone who's over 40 years of age, without a close partner's support would seem ill-advised.

But in all that one element remained central in this story, and it is the one element that is central to all success.
